The goal of the project is to achieve a sustainable reduction of child mortality among poor households. Previously it was being referred to as the Child Rescue programme. The project was started in 2007 as a pilot project in the Kiambiyu village of Pumwani. This is because over 10.5 million children die before their fifth birthday mainly from preventable causes (UNICEF). This project targets expectant mothers and children less than five years who are at risk of death due to sickness and their parents are too poor to afford the cost of treatment.
