Human Rights and Governance

The program seeks to build the capacity of the local community to enhance local democratic governance and uphold human rights.

Key Achievements:
There is a gained momentum among youth and women to vie for elective political leadership where 42male youth, 5female youth, and 7 women vied in 2017 elections.

  • Improved capacity of youth and women to negotiate on their rights to quality and affordable services
  • The improved working relationship between the Security agents, community, and stakeholders hence enhanced public and private partnership.
  • There is peaceful co-existence promoted by the vigorous and sustained lobby and advocacy campaigns during and after the rigorous election campaigns in 2017.
  • Capacity built 192 Community Own Resource Persons on Civic-Education, entailing constitutionalism, devolution, human rights, and Citizen participation.
  • Produced ½ hour film Maria and worn Short Film Category in the Zanzibar International Film festival. This enhanced Advocacy on GBV.
  • Developed 100 tool kits and 3,600 Civic Education booklets as reference materials on the Kenya constitution, Devolution, and Citizen participation for information empowerment.

So far, we have trained over 100 paralegals and trainers of trainers (TOTs) in advocacy. They have been instrumental in helping to increase the people’s capacity to engage, influence, defend and demand their rights from duty bearers and monitor public projects implementation in the informal settlements of Nairobi.
