Sparkling Jewels Project.

The Sparkling Jewels Project, funded by TEARFUND (UK), was launched in August 2015 to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable young mothers under 24 years old from Kiambiu, an informal settlement in Kamukunji Sub-County, in Nairobi. The project aimed to empower 120 young mothers by promoting economic independence, personal growth, and access to decent work, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 8.In partnership with Youth and Success Association (YASA) and Education For Life (EFL), it provided training in life skills, vocational and employability skills, ICT literacy, spiritual development, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Differentstakeholders, including government departments, churches, mentor parents, spouses, and families, were actively engaged for holistic support.

At the end of the project, we had achieved notable success, fostering significant behavioral changes among the young mothers as there was notable increased self-esteem, improved parenting skills, and stronger relationships with their families. Many became positive role models, created self-employment opportunities, and pursued constructive ventures. The initiative left a lasting impact, equipping these women with skills and confidence to lead dignified and self-reliant lives.
